A police team led by Detective Inspector Rebecca Flint investigate images being broadcast to an eminent astrophysicist Dr Christian King's laboratory, which appear to show the catastrophic events in the future.

Dr King observes a number of fragmented images being downloaded from an unknown source, to his laboratory, based somewhere in the North West of England. Among them are an image of a dead young girl, and a blown up bridge. All images appear to be dated 18 hours in the future. King requests a Police detective 'with an imagination' to investigate, and DI Flint responds. Initially dismissive, she returns with her team, and moves from suspecting both Dr King and a man linked to the images as to having hoaxed the images to warn of an impending bomb they intend to detonate, to believing the images show an actual future catastrophic event. The team deduces that the images represent an explosion at a low railway bridge near Marlingham railway station, due to a high sided vehicle carrying flammable gas striking the bridge. During the episode, the events that lead up to the various elements in the pictures being present at the scene are told. Flint and Gada race to the scene, but are unable to stop a road tanker being driven by a lost and sleepy driver, from striking the bridge, while a train is stopped on it due to power failure caused by solar activity, resulting in 74 deaths. In the aftermath, the team are sworn to secrecy under the Official Secrets Act, until the source of the images is determined. The episode ends with a second set of images being seen downloaded into King's unattended laboratory, one of which appears to show DS Holt dead.
